Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 66

...

After leaving the hospital, Dylan said to Isabel, “Why don’t you come to my place for dinner? You can tell my grandfather the news.”

Isabel fastened her seatbelt. “But my medication is back at Evergreen Ridge Estate.”

Dylan made a detour to pick it up before heading to the Foster residence.

After lunch, Isabel played chess with old Mr. Foster while discussing some of their research.

Dylan brought over a platter of sliced fruit, sat down next to Isabel, and casually offered her a piece.

Isabel shook her head. “You have it. I’m still stuffed from lunch.”

Old Mr. Foster glanced at them, his eyes thoughtful, but he said nothing.

“It’s been a while since you’ve played, hasn’t it?”

Isabel hadn’t had anyone to play with.

She had tried to teach Oliver, but he wasn’t interested.

At Halcyon Hills Residence, there was only Martha, and during her occasional visits to the Blackwell estate, no one there cared for her company.

It had indeed been six years since she last played, and she was a bit rusty.

“You’re just too good,” she complimented.

Old Mr. Foster’s chess style mirrored his personality.

Aggressive, relentless attacks.

He never left his opponent any room to breathe.

Isabel, on the other hand, preferred to plan her moves carefully, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Defense as a form of attack.

Even though she was out of practice, she only lost by a piece or two.

Dylan knew the basics of chess but had little interest in it.

After watching for a while, he started to feel sleepy.

He handed the fruit platter to Isabel and went to play games on his phone.

Old Mr. Foster shot him a look before saying to Isabel, “With his personality, I thought he’d quit being your partner after two days. I’m surprised he stuck with it.”

Isabel offered old Mr. Foster some fruit, but he waved her off, telling her to eat it herself.

She took a piece of honeydew melon. It was sweet and juicy. “Everyone has their own strengths. You never know,” she said.

Old Mr. Foster seemed to agree. He waved his hand. “I’m tired. I’m going to take a nap. You young people have fun.”

Dylan gestured to Isabel with his phone. “Up for a few rounds?”

Isabel picked up her phone, ready to open the game, but noticed a flood of mass-sent greetings.

She deleted the unimportant ones and replied to Amanda.

Amanda had sent a video of Leo wishing her a Happy New Year.

She sent a small cash gift back.

[It’s not much, just for the little one. Don’t you dare keep it for yourself, senior.]
