But when she mentioned the five percent stake, the words caught in her throat.
The Blackwell Group.
Five percent of its shares.
That was enough to live comfortably for several lifetimes without ever having to work again.
It was an astronomical sum.
And as long as the Blackwell Group stood, the money would keep flowing in.
But her heart still ached for Isabel. She gritted her teeth and said, “Even if he paid you a fortune, it doesn’t make it right. They’re two separate issues.”
“I know,” Isabel said, trying to soothe her. “I have a plan. Trust me.”
Amanda rolled her eyes. “I’m not so sure I can trust you right now. Remember when you were so determined to give up your career for marriage? I told you it was a bad idea, but you wouldn’t listen. And look where that got you.”
Isabel hugged her. “That was a one-time mistake. I promise.”
What else could Amanda say? “You’re not lifting a finger. Just stand there and watch. I made Braised Beef Ribs with Red Wine today, and you’re going to drink every last drop!”
“Yes, yes, of course,” Isabel readily agreed.

The dinner at Amanda’s house marked the end of the holiday season.
On the eighth day of the holiday, everyone returned to work.
Isabel took the initiative and called Daniel to ask about the divorce proceedings.
Daniel was surprised that she was following up so soon after the holidays.
But he hadn’t received any new instructions yet.
“Mrs. Blackwell, please give me a moment to call you back. I’ve just arrived at the office and need to organize my schedule for the day.”
Isabel urged him to get back to her as soon as possible.
He hung up and went into the CEO’s office.
Adrian had also just arrived. The new year brought the first signs of spring, and the temperature had started to rise.
He had shed his overcoat, wearing only a perfectly tailored three-piece black suit. His tie was knotted impeccably, and not a single crease marred his clothes. He exuded an air of aristocratic coldness.
