Adrian had a meeting. After reviewing some documents in his office, he emerged, ready to head to the conference room.
He ran right into Daniel, who was pacing nervously outside the door.
The man frowned. “Did the holidays make you forget your job description?”
“No, it’s not that...” Daniel wiped the sweat from his forehead, hesitating. “It’s about your wife...”
Adrian’s voice grew even colder. “If you can’t do your job as my executive assistant, I’ll find someone who can.”
Steeling himself, Daniel relayed Isabel’s message, word for word.
But after hearing it, Adrian didn’t even acknowledge it with a grunt. He simply strode toward the conference room.
Even after all these years, Daniel couldn’t figure out what his boss was thinking.
For six years, he had traveled with him, both at home and abroad.
He knew better than anyone how distant Adrian’s relationship with Isabel was. He knew the marriage was forced upon him by old Mrs. Blackwell.
And during those two years abroad, he had witnessed things between Adrian and Selena.
So...
Wasn’t getting a divorce what Adrian had always wanted, what he had been anxious to do?
Why was he dragging it out now?
But the mind of the CEO was not for him to decipher.
And the CEO’s affairs were not for him to manage.
He had delivered the message. That was all he could do.
