Selena didn't sense anything amiss. Seeing that he was still on her side, a triumphant smile flashed in her eyes. Outwardly, she continued her gentle persuasion. "No, I can't do that. Misunderstandings are the worst thing for a marriage. They have to be resolved quickly. I can't control what Isabel does with other men or whether she explains herself to you, but I have to make my side clear. If you two get divorced because of me, I'll be branded as the other woman."
"You won't be," Adrian's voice was flat and calm. "I'm here."

When Isabel finished her tests, she went to Dr. Lawson's office. To her dismay, Adrian and Selena were already there.
"Shit," Dylan muttered under his breath.
Selena smiled at her. "Isabel, we keep running into each other. It must be fate."
Isabel ignored her and handed her test results to Dr. Lawson.
Dr. Lawson was unaware of the complex relationships in the room. He simply focused on his job. "These results are consistent with the report from Riverstone Public. I know what we're dealing with. I'll schedule the surgery now."
Isabel thanked him and was about to leave when she heard a familiar, cold voice. "I'm afraid Dr. Lawson won't have time to perform her surgery."
Dr. Lawson paused. "Mr. Blackwell, what do you mean by that?"
Isabel froze, her feet rooted to the spot. She turned to face the man's tall, imposing back. "What do you mean by that, Mr. Blackwell?" she asked.
She didn't care how he doted on Selena. But her right hand was incredibly important. She had to ask.
