His steady gaze made Zoe feel increasingly unnerved, her palms growing damp with sweat. She had seen it last night at the club—this cop had some kind of connection with Willow.

“Your classmates, and that so-called boyfriend of yours... they’ve told us everything,” Ryan finally said after a long pause.

Zoe’s lips tightened, but she remained silent. She wasn't worried about her classmates; they knew nothing. Hamlin, however, that useless man, was a problem.

Ryan’s lips curved into a smirk. Since she wouldn't talk, he would. “A boyfriend you paid for is never reliable.” He slid a document across the table toward her. “This is Hamlin's confession from last night. He admitted that you approached him, paid him, and had him pretend to be your boyfriend as part of an act to ruin Willow.”

Zoe feigned composure. “Like I said, Willow’s perverted father raped me. Everything I did was for revenge.”

“You can’t produce a single piece of evidence, yet you expect us to believe your claim of rape?” Ryan scoffed.

“Alright then, tell me about the mole below Klein’s collarbone. Is it on the left side or the right?”

Zoe didn’t dare hesitate. “The left,” she blurted out. If she was wrong, she could always claim she was too panicked at the time to see clearly.

Ryan's faint smile instantly vanished. Seemingly desperate, he pressed on. “What about the burn scar on Klein’s left thigh? Is it on the inner thigh or the outer thigh?”

Seeing that Ryan hadn't refuted her first answer and now looked even more anxious, Zoe was sure she had guessed right. A triumphant laugh echoed in her mind; even fate was on her side.

She confidently doubled down. “Inner thigh!”

This time, the crease in Ryan’s brow finally smoothed out. Seeing this, Zoe immediately backtracked. “Or maybe it was the outer thigh. I was so scared, you can’t blame me for not seeing clearly!”

“Is that so?” Ryan smiled dismissively. He gathered Hamlin's testimony and returned to his seat at the interrogation table.
