When Beasley saw that Alistair's former name was “Mickey Bellamy,” his brow furrowed. Zoe, Mickey… they both shared the surname Bellamy. That couldn't be a coincidence.
He read on, his unease growing with every line. Alistair had been in contact with Zoe for six years, always using a landline. The calls were infrequent, once or twice a year, sometimes with a full year of silence in between. They hadn't spoken at all this year.
Beasley immediately grabbed his phone and called Willow. He tried several times, but she didn't answer.
His patience wore thin. He gathered the documents, stood up, and headed straight for the hospital.
At the hospital…
Willow saw Beasley's name light up her screen just as Waller was visiting. She declined the call. He called four times, and she declined it four times.
“Was that him?” Waller asked, noticing the look on her face.
“Yeah,” Willow confirmed, her voice laced with disgust. “He’s like a persistent ghost.”
Klein was asleep, with the caregiver watching over him, so Willow and Waller had stepped out onto the balcony to talk.
The setting sun cast a soft glow on Willow’s face. Waller watched her, etching the image into his memory. As soon as he'd finished his training for the day and gotten his phone back, he saw Ian’s message and rushed to the hospital to check on Willow and her father.
But since they weren't alone, he couldn't bring up the secrets only the two of them shared.
“I’ll stay here tonight. You should go home and get a proper night’s rest,” Waller said, his voice gentle as he looked at the faint shadows under her eyes.
