Human nature is fundamentally flawed.
When Donovan thought about how stubborn, cruel and indifferent Giselle was toward him, he became even more obsessed with her.
He subconsciously remembered how much she used to love him, and he felt his heart ache.
Initially, he wanted to head back to his office in order to deal with some trivial work matters. However, once he noticed that he had nothing important scheduled for the rest of the day, he couldn't be bothered to go anymore.
In the end, he returned to his villa. He'd decided to rest for a couple of hours before tending to anything else.
After he'd parked his car, his steward opened the door of his vehicle for him.
Then, to Donovan's surprise, he said in a soft voice, "Ms. Holt is here to see you, Mr. Kane. She's been waiting for you for some time now.
Donovan instantly assumed that Giselle had dropped by his villa.
"Ms. Holt?"
"Yes—Ms. Anne Holt."
Upon hearing this, Donovan said emotionlessly, "Ask her to leave right now."
To his dismay, Anne had already walked out of the house.
She made her way over to him and took his arm like she'd always done. Subsequently, she said, "You're finally home, Don. I've been waiting for you for the longest time. You didn't pick up any of my calls—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Donovan cut her off.
"I don't have time to listen to you talk," he spat coldly.
Anne felt her heart drop. She immediately teared up and cried, "What kind of extreme measures? Are you trying to hurt me? Do you want to kill me?"
She continued, "Regardless of what happened, you agreed to the marriage arrangement at the very beginning. You even promised me that you'll marry me on multiple occasions! In our social circle, we're supposed to be the rightful couple!
"This is all your and Giselle's fault! I've been nothing but a victim this entire time. Do you think you can just get rid of me now that you don't want me around anymore?"
He glanced at her with a look of contempt. "So what is it that you want me to do?"
"I have a proposal. If you agree to my terms, you and Giselle will get to fulfill your selfish desires, while I'll be able to minimize my losses," she said through gritted teeth.
Donovan had never cared about what Anne had to say. Even if she kicked up a fuss or threw a huge fit, he would still choose to ignore her. However, after going through the pain of losing Giselle once, he decided it was time to settle things with Anne once and for all.
With what little patience he had left, he asked, "Let's hear it then. What is this grand proposal of yours?"
