Just then, Donovan's assistant, Mark Kennedy, entered with Joanne, each pushing a suitcase. Benjamin directed them to carry the luggage upstairs.
"Why are you bringing back so many things just from a hospital stay?" Dorothea asked.
"Mrs. Kane Senior, these aren't Mr. Kane's belongings," Benjamin replied with a smile. "They're all Ms. Holt's clothes. There are still several more suitcases outside."
"Ms. Holt?" Grace's eyes widened. "Which Ms. Holt are you talking about?"
"Why, Ms. Giselle Holt, of course," Benjamin replied, puzzled. "Mr. Kane told us to move her things in. She's with him now, so from today onward, they'll be living together—"
"What did you say?" Grace screeched.
"Don, what's going on?" She whipped toward Donovan. "Are you seriously living together with that bitch?"
"This is absurd," Dorothea snapped, her voice tight with anger.
At a loss for words, Donovan squeezed his eyes shut and gritted out the truth, "Giselle and I have just registered our marriage. That settles everything between us. If you can't accept it, then stay out of my way."
Grace and Dorothea gawked at him. They were stunned into silence, their rage choking them of words.
At that moment, Giselle came down the stairs. The commotion had woken her, so she quickly got dressed and slipped out of her room.
She had lingered upstairs, quietly observing the trio from the second floor for a while. But since she and Donovan were already husband and wife, she decided there was no point in hiding any longer and walked down.
"And now she's married to you. If word gets out that you and your nephew slept with the same woman, our entire family will become the laughingstock of the city!"
Donovan remained silent, but Dorothea was seething. Her chest heaved with fury as she jabbed a trembling finger at Giselle.
"You scheming whore," she spat. "I don't care what you did before, but I will never allow you into the Kane family—unless it's over my dead body!"
Grace added heatedly, "You heard us. You might have a marriage certificate, but we will never acknowledge you as one of us."
"That's fine," Giselle replied coolly, unshaken by their fury.
With a nonchalant smirk, she continued, "As long as the law recognizes our marriage, that's enough."
