When Donovan answered the call, Giselle spoke first in a light, playful tone. "Darling, what are you doing?"
"Are you missing me already?" he teased, sounding relaxed.
She chuckled and answered, "Yes. Can you come back today? I can't sleep alone."
"I'll come back tomorrow. Oh, how have things been these past two days?" he asked casually.
Giselle considered sharing Dorothea's criticism and the story of how she saved Nini, but she held back, afraid it would only lead to a confrontation and stir conflict within his family.
"All good," she answered casually and quickly changed the subject. "By the way, a few of the executives mouthed off at me during today's meeting. I got pissed and fired a couple of them to set an example. You wouldn't mind, would you?"
Donovan didn't even bother to ask for details. "Just do whatever you want. These trivial things are yours to decide."
Concord Pharmaceuticals was huge, with countless branches. He had far more important matters to deal with than personnel changes in a branch company.
"Okay. Come home early." Giselle was relieved, and after exchanging a few words with him, she hung up.
She stayed at the office until the end of the day. She had planned to return to the villa immediately after work, but she suddenly remembered she had left some things at her old place, and drove back there.
In truth, she didn't like coming back here. The place was filled with traces of her life with Donovan, and stepping back in there brought her back to its tragic death, making her feel suffocated. Her heart felt heavy as she went upstairs.
