"What is it?" asked Giselle.
"Please come to the hospital with me later."
"Are you sick?"
Head hung low, Vivienne stammered, "No… I need to undergo a minor surgery."
"What surgery is that?"
"Surgical abortion."
"Huh?" Giselle's head snapped up in shock. She stared straight at her friend. "Are you pregnant?"
Vivienne bit the bullet. She admitted, "Yeah. I found out last week. I'm eight weeks pregnant. I deliberated for a few days, and I decided to abort it."
"Is Sebastian the father?" asked Giselle with a frown.
"Yeah. I only slept with him this year. It can't be anyone else."
"Damn. No wonder you look off today. You should've told me earlier." Giselle lost her appetite.
She asked again, "Does Sebastian know? And does he agree to the abortion?"
Smirking, Vivienne countered, "There's no point in telling him. You know his background. Nothing will change even if he learns about the pregnancy.
"I can't be a single mom, or my marriage prospects will suffer. I need to abort it as soon as possible to minimize the complications."
Despite being good friends with Vivienne, she couldn't make decisions on her behalf. Most importantly, Sebastian, the father of the child, was not a suitable marriage candidate for Vivienne.
It was better to rip off the band-aid quickly.
"You can't get sedated because you just ate. Have you made an appointment?"
Looking hopeless, Giselle replied, "I'm going for the usual abortion like the one you got. I can't wait anymore, or I might back off. I don't want to drag my feet too long. Getting a late abortion will hurt me more."
"Make an appointment for an abortion with sedation. It'll feel like waking up from a sleep. An abortion without anesthetic is gonna be so painful—you won't survive it."
"I'd rather die," confessed Vivienne, who had never looked so distraught before. "I don't care. I can't wait any longer. Once I get it over with, I'll cut all ties with that idiot."
