For a moment, Giselle almost couldn't recognize Renee standing before her.
After losing her son, Renee looked utterly broken. Her face was swollen, her eyes were sunken, her lips were pale, and even her hair was messy and unkempt. She wore plain black clothes without her usual expensive jewelry.
Compared to the sharp and confident woman she once was, Renee now looked ten years older. Her gray-streaked hair and drained appearance showed a woman utterly spent.
When she saw Giselle there, she only cast her a faint glance. The hostility and fighting spirit she once carried were gone. She looked dazed as she walked into the room.
This time, Giselle didn't make things difficult for her. She only stood aside, indifferently seeing what she was up to.
Renee went straight to Vivienne. Her voice was hoarse and low. "Vivienne, we need to talk."
Vivienne could already guess what it was about. After a long silence, she shook her head. "Forget it. There's nothing left for us to talk about."
Renee no longer had the strength for sharp words anymore. She lumped onto the couch as her weary gaze drifted to Vivienne's flat baby bump.
"Is the baby alright?" Renee asked in her raspy voice.
Vivienne took a deep breath and shook her head again. "I don't know. Ever since Sebastian's passing, I haven't been able to sleep. My stomach keeps hurting… I don't even know if I'm having a miscarriage…"
