Giselle was sure that Gideon was the mastermind. He had motive, means, and a grudge—this had all the shape of revenge designed to destroy Donovan's reputation.

Once the thought took hold, all her rage was directed at him. Without a moment's hesitation, she got in her car and drove straight to confront him.

After finding out Gideon was in his office, she floored the accelerator, running several red lights in a reckless race to her destination.

He ran a large-scale tech company, which was located in a suburban area and spread across several interconnected office towers.

She pulled up to the building, ignored the security guard's protests, and rushed into the elevator. The doors had barely opened before she was past the secretary and flinging open his office door.

Gideon was by the windows, cigarette in hand, speaking with a client. The sudden intrusion made him turn.

Giselle didn't wait. She snatched the phone from his hand, smashed it onto the floor, then slapped him with everything she had.

For a heartbeat, he stood frozen. "Why did you hit me?" he asked, rubbing his cheek.

"Did you do it?" she demanded.

He blinked, his voice almost amused despite the sting. "What? I only texted you because I wanted to see you. Why would you barge in and slap me?"

"This is probably the most satisfying news I've seen in a while," he said, voice flat with relish. "Who would've thought he'd fall like this? Serves him right if he did something that despicable."

"Why would you do this to him? If you're behind it, I'll never forgive you." Her voice shook with fury.

Gideon met her gaze with a cold chuckle. "I wish I could take credit, but I've been too busy plotting anything clever. Still, I won't deny I'm grateful to whoever did it."

His casual cruelty made Giselle's skin prickle. The admission—or the way it sounded like one—made her want to hit him again. "Don't lie to me! I know what you're capable of. Cut the crap and come with me to Astrakhan to clear Donovan's name!"
