"Why are you targeting me? I'm not the only one who wants Donovan dead. Do you really think I'd be afraid to admit it if I had done it myself?" Gideon asked calmly.
Giselle watched his aloof, almost amused demeanor, and a slow realization dawned on her—he might be innocent. She didn't want to waste another second. After one last glare, she turned to leave.
But Gideon's cold smirk followed her. "Rape isn't a small charge, Giselle. An international case won't be solved overnight. With the scandal all over the Internet, the whole world knows your husband cheated on you. Are you sure you still want to be with a man like that?"
Gideon's words hit her hard, but she knew they were true. Though he seemed to be kicking her while she was down, what he said was a fact.
With the news spread across the world, everyone now knew Donovan had cheated, slept with another woman, and betrayed her.
For a brief moment, sorrow gripped her chest, but it vanished as quickly as it came. She steadied herself.
"If this has nothing to do with you, then keep your venom to yourself," she snapped, scowling before storming out.
After returning home, Giselle bought a plane ticket for the next morning.
They had no choice but to trust the lawyers and follow the legal process. Based on similar cases, this could take months, even years, and that was only if Donovan was innocent. The lawyer would have to collect evidence, construct a defense, and clear his name before he could be free.
For the first time, Giselle felt a crushing helplessness settle over her.
If the charge had been fraud, even murder, she might have seen a clearer path. But this was a delicate case. She considered calling Ethan for advice, but then remembered the promise she had made. In the end, she dropped the idea.
