If Giselle was determined to make her marriage work, Giselle had to put her pride aside and bear this burden on Donovan's behalf.

After much thought, she asked Jordan, "Have you seen the woman who reported him? What was her relationship with Donovan?"

Jordan sighed. "Only once, at a business dinner. She's a manager at a client company, a graduate from a high-brow university, very accomplished. That night, she and Mr. Kane spoke at length. She's half Valantian, beautiful, poised. We never expected her to resort to something so low."

"So, you believe Donovan is innocent?" she asked.

"Of course! With Mr. Kane's status, women throw themselves at him—celebrities, socialites, and heiresses. He wouldn't need to stoop to a crime."

Halfway through, he remembered Donovan was married to Giselle and instantly apologized. "I'm sorry, Ms. Holt. That was out of line. What I mean is—I believe wholeheartedly he was framed."

Giselle's expression darkened. However, after a moment's thought, she pressed again. "Didn't this happen two days ago? Then why did the news suddenly explode back home yesterday? Donovan isn't a celebrity. Normally, the police wouldn't release something like this to the media."

"I'm just as confused. I only informed Mr. Ethan and deliberately kept it quiet from the executives. Yet somehow it spread everywhere. I suspect that woman leaked it on purpose."

The pieces began to align in Giselle's mind.

For nearly a minute, she simply stared at him before lifting the phone. "Are you okay?"

He didn't seem to acknowledge her presence, and only after a few seconds did he speak. "Whether I'm okay or not has nothing to do with you. Go back to Valanthea and stay out of this."

Giselle's chest tightened with disbelief. Even now, he wanted to play the part of the aloof tyrant.

"What nonsense!" she snapped. "We're not divorced! I'm the one who has to clean up your mess. Aren't you ashamed to let your nearly 80-year-old mother deal with this? And Ethan's far too busy with his own family drama to bother with you!"
