Ethan continued discussing the case with the lawyers on the way back, wearing a frown and a tense expression. He looked deeply worried.
Giselle tried to sound casual. "Ethan, we've all had a long day. How about we have dinner first and go over the details afterward?"
"Donovan's case isn't even resolved yet. How can I think about eating? You, however, seem to have quite the appetite!" Ethan snapped before turning back to his discussion with the lawyers.
Seeing Ethan's tired expression and remembering how deeply he had cared for Donovan from the very start, Giselle felt a surge of admiration and warmth. She realized that in many ways, Ethan had been more than a brother to Donovan.
Ethan was 20 years older than Donovan. Though they were brothers by blood, their relationship often felt more like that of a father and son. Ethan cared for Donovan like a parent, yet he always respected his opinions when it came to business.
No matter how cold and ruthless Donovan could be with outsiders, he valued his family deeply. His cunning and scheming were reserved for the outside world, while he placed complete trust in his family at home.
He never considered competing with Ethan's family and focused solely on running the family business.
Money was never a concern for him. In his mind, he and Ethan's family were one, and while minor disagreements were natural, they were united on major decisions.
As she sank into the couch, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts, the doorbell rang. The residence was only a temporary place Donovan used while on business in Astrakhan, with no housekeepers and rarely any visitors.
Her first thought was that it might be Ethan or one of Donovan's lawyers. She quickly got up and opened the door.
When she opened it, she froze. It was Gideon.
