Almost immediately, Gideon was taken aback at Giselle's disheveled state. Gripping her shoulders tightly, he inquired, "You don't look well. Tell me—did Donovan bully you? He hit you, didn't he?
"Tell me right now. Did he abuse you?"
Giselle shook her head weakly. Eyes vacant, she spoke in a hoarse voice, "No. This has nothing to do with him."
Gideon caught sight of the shards on the floor. His eyes traveled to her bleeding wounds.
He immediately felt bad for her.
"Take a seat now." He guided her to sit on the couch. "Do you have a first-aid kit? I'll dress your wounds."
Still dazed, she shook her head. "Don't bother. Go home."
Gideon had to search for the first-aid kit in her room. Soon, he found some antiseptic solution and cotton swabs in the first-aid box on the dresser of the secondary bedroom.
Crouching next to her feet, he carefully disinfected her wounds by applying the antiseptic solution with the cotton swab. He moved gently so as not to hurt her.
The wounds on her legs gave rise to mixed feelings. He could not help but curse out Donovan under his breath. "That jerk took you from me with underhanded tactics. In just a few months, he made you injured. I really want to beat him up!"
"Thanks for your concern. There's no need for that," Giselle replied, utterly hopeless. "It has nothing to do with him. I was the one who threw myself at him. Now that things have ended between us, I've escaped…"
"Did he sign the divorce papers?" Gideon had to confirm.
"Do you want to nap?" When he was done cleaning, he wiped the sweat off his forehead and tried to carry her into bed.
Giselle coldly pushed his hand away. Not only that, she mumbled incoherently, "Stay away from me. You'll be cursed. Everyone who comes near me will be cursed…"
"Okay." Gideon could empathize with her. She must be devastated since the divorce was still recent and raw. It must be hard for her to accept a new relationship right away.
All that mattered was that she and Donovan had divorced. They were no longer man and wife, which was great news for Gideon. He had no need to rush things along.
He said to her, "I won't bother you anymore. I'll give you some space to rest for a while."
