Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 493

Gideon had brought a complete set of rock climbing gear, including the main rope, harness, helmet, descender, ascender, nuts, pitons, and hooks.

They had changed into sports attire and footwear suitable for rock climbing. Once they put on the harness, they were all set to go.

Giselle confidently led the way to the foot of the mountain. Soon, she started scaling the mountain by stepping onto the jagged rocks.

At first, they ascended without trouble due to the relatively easy slope. Giselle, in particular, moved fast. As an experienced climber, she could easily climb to a higher place by stepping on any rock.

Gideon followed closely and made his way up without problems. He reminded her, "Hey, slow down. Don't rush. This is not a competition. We should at least climb at the same pace to look after each other."

However, Giselle was extremely pumped up after finding a perfect way to release her stress at a low point in life. She climbed upward with more tenacity.

Finally, they reached the steep part of the mountain, which was almost a vertical cliff. They would have to rely on their gear from that point onward.

Giselle was not fazed at all. Instead, she looked rather thrilled as she expertly placed the rock nut into a crack in the rock. She hooked the rope onto the rock, pulled on it, grabbed the rock above, and climbed upward.

Gideon, located on her lower left, climbed up with his gear while chatting with her. He reminded her to look out for her safety.

Halfway through, they slowed down due to the increasing difficulty. The steepness of the mountain made each attempt to ascend extremely daunting.

Giselle's fingers were blistered at that point. Drenched in sweat, she huffed and puffed. Her limbs were sore.

While they were taking a short break, she turned around to look at Gideon. Somehow, she saw Donovan in Gideon's place. She wasn't sure if it was a trick of the light or just her own dizziness.

The more she thought about it, the more suffocated she felt, and the more she wanted to expend her energy as a way to release her frustration. Before long, she felt her stamina fading, and her consciousness fading away.

Clenching her teeth, she pushed herself to go faster, leaving Gideon far behind.

She didn't want to stop, as if she could numb her pain by pushing herself to the limit.

After another ten minutes or so, she reached a new height. She tried to make her way to a rock diagonally above her. She pulled out a nut and searched for a crack to place it in.

Perhaps because she was distracted and unfocused, she wasn't paying attention when she inserted the nut into the crack. She clipped her rope onto it right away and leaped up with the support.

Unexpectedly, the nut that seemed secure slipped right out of the crack. Before she could even react, her body plummeted uncontrollably down the cliff.
