Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 519

Finally, he reached her gravesite. A small black-and-white photo was etched into the stone, capturing her young, radiant face in a smile that had always captivated him, and his breath caught as he looked into her eyes once more.

Beneath the photo, a simple inscription read, "In Loving Memory of Giselle Kane." To the right, smaller letters recorded her birth and death dates, along with the words "Beloved Husband, Donovan Kane."

It seemed the Kanes had finally acknowledged Giselle. Even though Donovan had not taken part in the arrangements, the gravestone had been inscribed in his name.

He stood there for a long moment, lost in thought, before kneeling in front of the grave. Carefully, he set the cake and bouquet of roses at its base. He had wanted to say something meaningful, something worthy of her memory, but in the end, only the simplest words came out. "Happy birthday, my love."

He couldn't help but reach out and touch the cold surface of the gravestone. His fingers lingered on the black-and-white photo, tracing the contours of her eyes, nose, and lips. As he did, memories of her flooded back—every glance, every smile, every moment they had shared through love and conflict—and his wounded heart throbbed with a deep, aching sorrow.

As he sat there, lost in memories, he was startled by the sound of soft footsteps behind him. Someone was coming closer.

He instinctively turned and found Anne standing there. She wore a tight, wine-red short-sleeved top paired with wide-legged jeans, red sneakers completing the ensemble. Her lips were painted a striking scarlet.

Most disturbingly, she carried a bouquet of white lilies, the very flowers that had always made Giselle's allergies flare and had been her greatest dislike.

Faced with the infamous Anne and her obvious schemes, Donovan didn't even glance at her, nor did he lose his composure on the spot.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Let go!" Anne shouted, struggling to break free.

When she couldn't break free, she dared him even more. "Donovan, don't you see? This was fate. Look at how that bitch trampled my dignity. The two of you ruined me, and because of how cruelly you treated me, even heaven could not bear it and took her instead.

"If you had married me back then and not fallen under her spell, she could still be alive. In the end, you are the one who killed her. Her death is the direct result of marrying you. You killed her with your own hands."

Donovan slapped her across the face, sending her sprawling to the ground.
