Upon hearing this, Anne scoffed. "What did I tell you? Do you know how greedy that woman is? There's no way she would refuse to give birth to the baby."
She continued, "I won't return to the country for at least a year, Mom. Don't lose your head over the baby in her womb. You should at least run a paternity test after she gives birth to the child!"
"I know," Renee replied solemnly.
In a slightly pained voice, Renee continued, "Before Sebastian was cremated, I cut off a lock of his hair as a keepsake. I'll arrange for a paternity test immediately after Vivienne gives birth to the baby. I just hope the results won't disappoint me…"
Anne replied in a scheming manner, "You'd better acquire full custody of the child as soon as you're certain that it belongs to Sebastian. Then give Vivienne some money and ask her to leave!
"Get her to sign an agreement so that she'll never be able to contact the child again!"
Renee was still feeling really dejected.
"I haven't thought that far ahead. Let's just wait for the baby to be born healthily for now," she said.
"I was thinking… Once the baby is born, we can have him registered as your third child with Dad. In other words, he would also be considered my 'brother.' This way, he'd technically be born into a complete family."
Upon hearing Anne's outrageous suggestion, Renee's expression immediately soured.
"Just leave that to me. You should be thinking about your current situation instead. Remember to keep in contact with me after you leave the country," she said.
"I know. I'm not a child anymore—I'm more mature than you think I am," Anne replied with a scoff. "I used to be concerned about getting set up by Giselle. But now that she's dead, I don't have anything to worry about anymore. I just need to head abroad and wait for the issue to die down…"
…
While he was lost in his thoughts, Dorothea leaned in toward Ethan's ear and asked in a hushed voice, "How's the lawsuit against Anne coming along? I heard Don's decided not to pursue the matter any further."
"Yeah," Ethan nodded resignedly. "I don't know what's going on in his head. He was so adamant about the entire thing, but now he's telling me to withdraw the lawsuit."
He continued, "It's been a really long time, though. I heard Anne has left the country as well. I'm actually lost. Let's just listen to Don's opinion."
To everyone's surprise, Ethan and Dorothea had just wrapped up their conversation when a woman barged into the living room.
That woman was none other than Renee!
Renee looked anxious and slightly angry. Completely ignoring the ongoing dinner party, she marched into the room and said to Dorothea, "Please put a pause on your party, Mrs. Kane. I have an extremely urgent matter to discuss with all of you!"
