Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 533

Sobbing in agony, Renee clutched the tombstones as she slammed her head against it, gushing blood from her forehead in the process.

"Don't hurt Anne! Please, I'm begging you… Don't hurt her! Just let her return to me safely, please! God, I know I was wrong! Let everything I ever took pride in be stripped away, just grant Anne mercy… please…"

When she finished confessing the sins she had kept buried for years, Renee was now bleeding heavily from her self-inflicted wounds.

Too weak to kneel, Renee slumped onto the ground as the heavy rain began to pour. Lying there motionlessly, she let the downpour soak her and closed her eyes and wondered.

With both children gone, what was left to live for? Wouldn't it be better to die right here?

But then, the thought struck her. Anne might still be alive. She was enduring some subhuman existence in a hidden corner of the world, waiting for Renee to come rescue her.

At that, Renee snapped back to reality. She summoned every ounce of her strength to push herself up.

Deep down, she knew Anne was still alive!

As a mother, she could not and would not fall. Even if the weight of it crushed her, she had to endure it.

Renee would find Anne, no matter what. Even if all that remained was her body, or merely her belongings, she wouldn't stop.

For as long as the truth remained unknown, she would stand her ground and anchor herself to this duty alone.

As the months stretched on, Renee and Tony never stopped searching for Anne. But when spring came the next year, there was still no word and no trace of her at all.

Tony managed to maintain a semblance of normalcy by throwing himself into his job, but Renee was reduced to a shadow of her former self.

Yet, just as despair threatened to consume her, a single ray of hope broke through her darkness.

Like a shadow, a profound sense of loneliness and emptiness trailed his every step.

So, Donovan refused to slow down. He had to numb himself with grueling work, alcohol, and cigarettes. He would do anything to stay in constant motion and dull the ache within.

At times, he found himself wishing for a severe car crash. He wanted to wake up with his memories wiped clean, so all the pain would vanish.

To avoid being alone with his thoughts, he started to return to the Kane Manor more often. He would eat there and even stay overnight.

But tonight, when Donovan returned to the Kane Manor straight from work, he was caught off guard.

He noticed a beautiful young woman sitting on the couch. She was wrapped up in a friendly conversation with the Kanes, and everyone was enjoying themselves.
