Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 547

Donovan assumed it was one of his subordinates coming to deliver a report, so he opened his eyes reluctantly, forced himself to sit up, and took a sip of water. "Come in."

The door opened, and to his surprise, Marselle walked in.

"Mr. Kane, are you busy?" She greeted him with a bright smile.

There wasn't a hint of awkwardness about her, only her usual confidence and poise.

"What are you doing here?" he asked flatly.

"I came to chat," Marselle said, scanning his office boldly as she walked around. She stopped in front of him and added with a smile, "Your office is impressive. It's exactly the kind of style I like and much better than my dad's outdated one."

"Say what you came to say, or leave. I'm busy," Donovan replied curtly, unwilling to indulge in her meaningless chatter.

Marselle had grown up as a pampered heiress, adored by everyone around her. Whether at home, in school, or in society, she had never once been on the receiving end of anyone's temper. She was used to being the one who gave orders, not the one who got dismissed.

When Donovan dismissed her so coldly, her first instinct was to snap back.

But as her eyes fell on his sharply defined profile, her anger faltered. The frustration in her chest softened without warning, replaced by a feeling she couldn't quite name.

Her gaze shifted to the coffee table, where a plate of freshly cut cantaloupe sat. She picked up a piece and took a few bites, then smiled. "It's really sweet. You should try some."

Folding her arms, she added lazily, "The truth is, my family's been pressuring me nonstop. That's the only reason I agreed to come to Valanthea for this so-called arranged meeting. Honestly, if you weren't handsome and exactly my type, do you really think I'd travel all this way to meet an older widower?"

At that, Donovan finally looked up at her.

He wasn't angered by her jab. If anything, her blunt tone felt strangely familiar. It reminded him of the way Giselle used to barge into his office, teasing and provoking him until his thoughts were in complete disarray.

Marselle noticed his gaze lingering on her and gave a soft, amused laugh. She stepped closer and said lightly, "Mr. Kane, why don't we just play along for now? We don't have to actually be together. It'll make both families happy, and they'll keep their business alliance intact. Meanwhile, we can each live our own lives. Everyone wins. Think about it."

Before he could respond, she picked up her Hermès bag, gave him a knowing smile, and walked out of the office.
