Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 572

"Are you hungry? I'll make you something to eat. Try to get some more rest," Donovan said softly, brushing his hand over her hair before helping her lie back down.

He then left the small room and walked to the other side of the wooden cabin, trying to find the kitchen. Only then did he finally notice what kind of place this really was.

Though the island was known for its beautiful scenery, it was still largely undeveloped. Most of its residents were indigenous families. Apart from a small dock area in town with a few shops, places to eat, and some lodging, the rest of the island was mostly barren coastal villages scattered with fishermen's homes.

The area he was in now had only a handful of houses.

The home they were staying in belonged to Enya, an elderly woman who could barely walk without trembling. She spoke in the local dialect, and her words were nearly impossible to understand.

The cabin itself was small and made of old wooden planks. It was divided into two rooms, furnished with only the most basic necessities. There were no modern appliances, not even a proper table or chair.

The cooking area was even simpler.

Donovan found a corner stacked with old pots and bowls. The stove was blackened with soot, the cutting board had mold on it, and one of the ceramic bowls was chipped. For a moment, he didn't even know where to begin.

After learning that he and Giselle were husband and wife, Enya welcomed them warmly. Noticing his refined appearance and composed demeanor, she naturally assumed they were city folks on a short vacation. She tried to strike up a conversation, but he couldn't understand a single word of her dialect.

Her granddaughter, Hailey, crouched by the doorway with her dog in her arms, watching Donovan with wide, curious eyes. Every now and then, she tried to speak to him in a few clumsy Edevanian words.

Donovan looked around the small space and realized the only ingredients available were the two buckets of seafood Giselle and Hailey had gathered from the shore. As for vegetables, there was just a single eggplant, a few potatoes, and some yams and turnips.
