Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 589

The second Donovan hit the ground from the blow to his chest and stomach, he spotted an empty can of luncheon meat, the same one he and Giselle had tossed into the grass after dinner last night. Giselle's face surfaced in his mind, lighting a fire in him. He refused to die here. In fact, he decided to go down swinging.

Hence, when Teddy came at him to kick him in the chest, Donovan abruptly lunged forward with every last bit of strength he had left. He grasped his leg, yanked him down, and pinned him to the ground.

Before Teddy could break free from his hold, he fisted a hand in his hair and forced his head back. Then, gripping the sharp pull-tab lid of the can, he slashed it across Teddy's carotid artery like he was slaughtering a chicken. Blood spurted everywhere, and Teddy bled out and died.

Donovan, now soaked in red, collapsed on the ground, gasping for air. He held on until Giselle arrived with help two hours later.

"It's a good thing I didn't throw that can into the sea."

After listening to his recount, Giselle still felt shaken. Who would've thought renting a speedboat would lead to both disaster and a miracle? The man who rented it to them had casually tossed them two cans of meat as a freebie, and one of them ended up saving Donovan's life.

Perhaps fate really had plans of its own.

"I'm so sorry." When she thought about how close she had come to losing him and how he had been willing to risk his life just to give her a chance to survive, multiple emotions swirled in her heart. Tears welled up in her eyes almost instantly.

"I… love you," she choked out at last before lying on top of him. "I love you so much. Not just in this moment, but yesterday, the day before, last month, the month before, this entire year, last year, the year before… every single second I've been alive, I've loved you, Donovan!"
