As Marselle took the earrings out of the drawer, she spoke casually, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Kane. When I met Mr. Kane, I had no idea you were still alive. Even he didn't know. That's why some things were pretty awkward. I hope you won't take it too personally…"

"What are you talking about?" Donovan, who had just reached the doorway, lost his temper when he heard Marselle's words.

He glared at her. "Can you talk like a normal person for once? What's with these earrings? You'd better explain right now! When did you sneak into my bedroom? Do you have any manners at all?"

Despite the sharp questioning, Marselle didn't panic. Instead, she let out a cold laugh.

"Mr. Kane, what's wrong with you? It hasn't even been half a month yet. It was the night you got the message that Ms. Holt was still alive. You were asleep, so I woke you up and showed it to you.

"After you saw the message, you ran out like a madman. Later, I heard you went abroad to look for your wife. I figured it was good news that she was alive, so I left your place with my blessings. I must've been careless at the moment and left my earrings behind."

"Shut up!" Donovan exclaimed.

Hearing Marselle twist the story so shamelessly made him want to slap her. He never imagined the pampered heiress of the Sterling family could be this bold and shameless.

However, Giselle quietly took a deep breath, forcing herself to maintain her composure.

"That's enough. There's no need to get so worked up." Giselle gave Donovan a mild reprimand.

Then, she turned to Marselle, calm and composed. "Ms. Sterling, since you've retrieved your belongings and aren't staying for dinner, I'll have the driver send you home."

"That would be nice, thank you."

Feeling she had accomplished what she came for, Marselle gave Donovan one last mocking smile before walking out of the bedroom.

Donovan remained where he stood, closing his eyes in frustration. He knew he had been played, but couldn't explode. Losing control wouldn't stop anything and would only worsen Giselle's condition.
