Not to be outdone, Victor's eyes turned icy, as if frosted over.
How dare he trick them!
Domingo sensed the sudden surge of power behind him. His jaw tightened, and he ran even faster.
He figured Ruby was a reasonable person, so his wife and child would probably be safe with her. But he was a different story!
Legal consequences sounded mild, but he wanted no part of it! His short time in the factory had already been agonizing. If he went to prison, it would be a living hell!
Just as he was hitting his stride, feeling the commotion behind him fade, he started to relax. But then he felt a cool hand land effortlessly on his shoulder.
A violent shiver ran through Domingo, and his legs went weak, nearly causing him to collapse.
Victor's iron grip held his shoulder firmly.
Overwhelming fear seized Domingo, but before he could struggle, Victor produced a syringe from nowhere and jabbed it into his neck.
The scream died in Domingo's throat. Within a single breath, the world spun, and he pitched forward, collapsing to the ground.
Hayley caught up, panting, and saw Victor dragging Domingo by the collar.
"He almost ruined everything!"
She kicked Domingo twice, gritting her teeth.
Victor's face was grim as he cautiously eyed the area inside the wall. "He made a lot of noise. We don't know if the guards got suspicious. We need to go, now."
Hayley's expression immediately turned serious. She nodded firmly. "Quick!"
The moon hung high in the sky as a car slipped away into the night.
Domingo's wife stared blankly at the man with his eyes shut tight in the back seat, her already sorrowful eyes filling with bitter tears.
"Stop crying. If he hadn't been so foolish, he wouldn't be in this state," Hayley said, casually chewing on a piece of candy while sneering at Domingo.
Fanny pressed her lips together but said nothing.
