The moment those quiet words left Su Qinglan’s lips, the air in the cave shifted.

Xuan Long’s expression darkened instantly. His sharp eyes, always calm and composed, turned cold as steel. For a long moment, he just stared at her... then his voice came out low and steady but edged with something dangerous.

"No," he said flatly. "She is not your mother."

Su Qinglan blinked, caught off guard. "What?"

He didn’t look away. His gaze stayed fixed on her face, as if trying to read something hidden there.

"A mother doesn’t look at her child with hatred," he said slowly. "She doesn’t come only to humiliate or to steal food from her. That woman... is not a mother."

For a moment, Su Qinglan just stared at him, lips slightly parted. Then a small, bitter smile curved on her face.

"I know," she said softly. "Mothers aren’t supposed to be like that." Her eyes dropped to her hands resting on her knees. "But she is, unfortunately. A nasty one. And she’s always been that way."

There was quiet for a moment. The others exchanged looks but said nothing.

Xuan Long’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t press further. But his eyes have some strange look, like he wanted to explain something but doesn’t have an idea how to.

So he just simply nodded and replied, "...I see," he said at last. His tone was calm again, but the frost hadn’t melted from it.

Su Qinglan gave a small shrug, forcing a lighter tone. "Don’t worry about it. I’m used to her little dramas."

Even Hu Yan and Han Jue’s faces turned dark. Rong Ye snorted, looking at the cave entrance where Mu Lihua had gone. "That female has guts... stealing food like that. I was waiting all morning for breakfast."

Hu Yan sighed and stood up, his voice calm as always. "Don’t worry. I’ll cook something else."

Han Jue nodded. "We brought more meat. Let’s cook it properly. I don’t want Lan Lan to go hungry."

Su Qinglan smiled as she still couldn’t realize how someone could be so shameless as to barge into someone’s home and steal their food with a righteous expression.

If she let this old witch digest her food for nothing, her name would not be Su Qinglan.

"Then... let’s cook with rice," she said softly. "I want to eat that again."

So they started preparing. Hu Yan and Han Jue worked near the fire, setting up the cooking area again.

Rong Ye sat down to help, cutting and cleaning the meat with quick hands. Xuan Long helped wash the rice and poured it into the big stone pot.

Soon, the cave was filled again with the sound of chopping and fire crackling. The smell of meat roasting slowly filled the air once more.

Han Jue stood up immediately, brushing the crumbs off his clothes. "Right. We have to finish it soon. If we don’t, the next rain will wash everything down again."
