“Cause trouble under my care?” Maximus tilted his head lazily. He wanted to hear what this man could tell him. “What trouble do you think she will cause me?”

Alaric looked compose in his seat, as he looked at the king, but not in his eyes, because the intensity of his gaze was something he couldn’t bear. “My king. I can’t say it, because if I do, I will portray a bad image on her, and no matter what, she is still my daughter.”

“Then I don’t think you need to see her. She is fine. Alive, and unharmed, if that’s what you care about. You can leave now.” Maximus was a little bit disappointed, because he expected more from this imbecile before his eyes.

He didn’t like the beta for various reasons. He was a cunning old man. This was not their first encounter. Maximus remembered him even before he ascended the throne.

“My king, I am glad that she is fine under your care, but I miss my daughter.” Alaric then took a deep breathe, as if he was holding the burden of the world. “I am glad that you don’t act harshly with the rumors that spread around about her, but she is still my daughter, and I didn’t get a chance to see her when you took her away.”

“So, you blame me?”

“No, of course not!” There was a little panic in Alaric’s voice, he waved his hands to dismiss the accusation, but then he sighed again. “I only want to give her an advice. She had tarnished her own name back in the Black Stone pack, and now she is your mate and will be the queen of this kingdom, I want her to behave.”

“Who told you she will be the queen of this kingdom?”

Shock was written clearly on Alaric’s face when he heard that, but Maximus ignored that, as he continued.

“If you couldn’t even give her an advice when she was still in the Black Stone pack, what makes you think it

will work now?”

And Alaric didn’t have an answer for that, but he wouldn’t be a beta if he couldn’t get himself out of this.

“My king, all of what happened were punishment for her, and I think she had learned her lesson. I believe she will listen to me now. Whether you will make her the queen or not, she still need to behave herself, so she will. not sully your name.”

“Sully my name?” Maximus laughed, as if that was the funniest thing he had ever heard. His moniker was the Mad King, after all. “What else she can do to sully my name?”

And only then Alaric realized he had said the wrong thing. This time, he didn’t try to be smart, and shut his mouth, waiting for the king to stop laughing at his mishap.

“If there is nothing else you want to say, you can leave.”

Alaric lowered his head. He had two options; he could leave, and forget the reason why he came here, or… he could give the king what he wanted. Caden had told him to expect this.

“My king. What do you want to know about my daughter?” Alaric finally asked, his expression didn’t show any

This was when the real conversation began.

Maximus scoffed. “Mine did.” He leaned back, and looked lazy. “So, did you.”

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Declan said when he heard what Maximus was planning to do.

“Everything is not a good idea in your eyes,” Maximus said irritably. Both of them walked toward the dining hall, where Alaric had been waiting for them alone.

Maximus just sent an omega to inform Rania that he would meet with her in the dining hall along with her father. She must be on the way here too.

“Maximus, what is your point to prove that?” Declan asked. He was being skeptical with Rania. “You need to cut her off from the people in that pack, if you want to keep her. We can silence all the people there not to spread the rumor about her outside of their pack.”

“You are worrying too much about the image of the kingdom.” On the other hand, Maximus didn’t seem to care. A good image didn’t mean it will bring a good fortune for him. “Stay back, Declan. I don’t want to hear your opinion.”
