Crossing the Border (Rania) novel Chapter 61

Rania woke

up with a mixed of emotions, which she couldn’t understand. She glanced at Maximus who was sleeping peacefully next to her.

The sex last night was different. He was being extremely gentle and understanding with her, which was baffling, and Rania had to admit that she liked it.

Maximus gave her undivided attention. He worshiped her body. He was not being selfish, and most importantly, he didn’t reprimand her for anything, which felt good.

But then, Rania reminded herself what she should do. She couldn’t indulge herself in a rare moment of his gentleness, there was another thing that she had to do.

His scarce moment of gentleness could erase how bad he had treated her, and what he had done to her.

Rania closed her eyes, and slowly got out of the bed. The king didn’t stir in his sleep, seemingly he got a good night sleep after so long, even a war broke out, he wouldn’t wake up.

Therefore, she took this time to get to the bathroom, where she hid her poison, and then went to the television room.

Just like what she expected; the breakfast was already there, and because they knew the king spent his night in her bedroom, there were two plates for them.

Rania put a few drops of poison inside Maximus’s food. Usually, she would use herself when she poisoned him, and now she started to get the repercussion from it.

Therefore, she had to change her method or else, she would die first before the poison took effect on the king.

Once she was done, Rania hid it inside one of the vases, so she would be able to get it quickly when the chance arrived.

When she was done, she only needed to wait for Maximus to wake up.

However, it was three hours later when the king finally stirred in his sleep, and Rania had to ask to reheat the .

breakfast three times.

Maximus immediately sat down when he found himself was alone in the bed, he looked around, but he

couldn’t find Rania.

Only when he heard the noise from the television, he approached her there, and found her curling herself on the sofa, laughing at the cartoon on the screen.

“Do you like it so much?” Maximus asked, he didn’t mean to surprise her, but she jumped out of her skin, as she was shocked to hear his voice all of sudden. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“Sorry…” Rania pressed her palms against her chest, because she could feel her heart was pounding against her chest. She did something wrong, which made her jumpy.

the table, “Why don’t you eat?He nodded at

Rania looked at him for a second longer, before she replied to his question. “Because I am waiting for you to eat together. I don’t want to eat alone.”

She was not in the mood to eat anything, because there were a lot of things in her mind, but the answer that she gave to him sounded right, and when she looked at his expression, she knew that she had said the correct thing.

“Let’s eat,” Maximus said, he took the plate closer to him, which to Rania’s relief was indeed the plate that she had prepared for him.

“Okay.” Rania received the plate and start to eat her portion. She did it slowly, because she didn’t have appetite. But, even if she had, the food would taste the same for her.

“Can you taste something?” Maximus asked, he watched his mate was eating, and she didn’t seem to enjoy it.

Maximus was not Eiten, who was good with words, his statement could be interpreted wrongly, but all he

Se extended the same

If Eiten was there, the royal gamma would have facepalmed himself, and kicked the king’s butt, if he could when he heard Maximu’s answer. Obviously, it was so wrong in so many levels to see their current situation.

It was so far from being genuine, and Maximus didn’t even realize it. He was being practical here, which was not wrong, since he was the king, and he would get old. It was the right time to have an heir.

Moreover, the elders had been pressuring him about it a few times.

On the other hand, Rania didn’t say anything, she lowered her head, and played with her food. The silence felt so heavy, and Maximus could feel the shift in the air, though he didn’t know what else he had done wrong.

“Heaven!” Eiten groaned in frustration when he heard what Maximus said about how the afternoon ended. He rubbed his face roughly in exasperation. “How could you say something like that?”

“That’s the truth.”

“Oh, Selene! How could you be so clueless. Sometimes the truth is not the right thing to say.”

“Do

you wish me to lie?” Maximus was irritated by Eiten’s reaction, but right at that time, the beta came over to give them the news.

“I have investigated about it,” Declan said.
