He nodded. “Alright. We’ll drink.”
“All of us.”
As soon as he said it, Jace’s face went pale. Alona’s legs turned to jelly and she almost couldn’t stand.
Wiona, you bitch!
Alona shot a furious glare at Wiona, her thoughts racing. That night, the storm was so wild, and Wiona had been drugged. How did she survive? She should have died. Instead, she came back. How could her luck be so stubborn?
If Wiona had really died, Salisbury Corporation might have been in chaos for a while, but nothing like this. Now Alona was trapped with no way out.
If she told her husband the truth about the medicine, he’d never forgive her. But if she kept quiet, Bianca would have to drink it too. She was older, so it didn’t matter as much for her. Her husband and son were men, so the medicine would do nothing to them. But Bianca wasn’t even married yet.
Did Wiona actually know what was in that medicine? Was she doing this on purpose?
Alona’s anxiety kept spiraling. She tried to convince herself, maybe it really was just a tonic to calm the nerves.
It wasn’t long before someone brought out bowls of dark, murky liquid. Each person got one.
Bianca pinched her nose, wrinkling her face in disgust. “What is this? It smells awful. Dad, I don’t want to drink it. What if it’s something bad again?”
Daniel’s voice was cold. “Today you’re drinking it. No arguments. If you don’t, your credit card gets frozen for six months. Your choice.”
He set the rules, then picked up his bowl and finished it in one go.
Jace stared at his dad in shock, reaching out as if to stop him, but Daniel was too quick.
Jace just stared, lost for words. He looked at his father, but couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
Now it was Alona, Bianca, and Jace left. Jace hesitated, then met Wiona’s eyes. He remembered what he owed her, took a breath, and downed the medicine.
