Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 16

Finding out the truth last night left Wiona with this heavy, guilty feeling. Grandma Grace had always been there for her. She’d stood up for her against the Salisbury family more times than Wiona could count. And now, after last night, Wiona knew she was partly to blame for Grandma Grace’s collapse. If only she hadn’t been so stubborn in the first place…

“Silly girl.” Grandma Grace’s voice was gentle. “Last night, I heard you were back. I was so happy I asked Molly to fetch you for a walk with me.” She shook her head. “It was my own children and grandchildren who upset me, not you. Don’t blame yourself.”

She reached for Wiona’s hand, squeezing it softly. “Listen, I know what really happened. They all got the wrong idea, and I’ve already given them a piece of my mind. I didn’t let a single one off the hook.”

Across the room, Alona’s face was thundercloud dark, while Bianca puffed her cheeks out in frustration. Daniel was red in the face as he tried to explain, “Mom, we were just too worried last night. That’s why we questioned Wiona. It’s not like we did anything to her.”

Grandma Grace’s voice shot up. “You didn’t do anything? What more did you want to do, drive me straight into the grave so you can be happy?” As she spoke, the monitors at her bedside started going crazy. The lines on the screen spiked and dipped as if they were dancing.

Everyone in the room went pale, but Grandma Grace was relentless. “She’s carrying the Salisbury family blood, and you treat her like this? How could you be so cruel to her, so harsh?”

Wiona rushed to calm her, rubbing gently at Grandma Grace’s chest. “Grandma, please… try to relax. Don’t make yourself angry.”

Daniel looked like he might drop to his knees. “Mom, I’m begging you. Please don’t do this. I know I made a mistake. From now on, I’ll treat Wiona like a queen. I swear, nothing like this will ever happen again. Please, Mom…”

Finally, the beeping settled down and the room grew quiet. Grandma Grace waved everyone out, leaving just her and Wiona behind.

She sighed, her expression softening. “Wiona, sweetheart, I know Jace has let you down. Tell me, what are you going to do?”

Wiona hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper. “Grandma, I really hope you won’t get involved this time, okay?”

Grandma Grace frowned. “If I don’t, am I just supposed to sit back and watch this family fall apart? You are my favorite granddaughter-in-law, and I’m not letting anyone push you out of this family.”

Wiona took a shaky breath. She knew what she was about to say would hurt, but she couldn’t keep it in any longer. “Grandma, I want to divorce Jace.”

Thank goodness Grandma Grace had taken her heart meds earlier, or she might have fainted again. She gripped Wiona’s hand so tightly it trembled. “There’s really no way to fix things? Maybe last night was just a misunderstanding…”
