Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 161

Wiona’s heart dropped. This was bad. Was she being watched after all? Maybe they left just to draw her out. She silently scolded herself for being so careless. She had no idea if someone had already spotted her.

She stared at the long, dark shadow stretching across the ground under the moonlight and streetlamps, her heart pounding so hard she could barely breathe.

Suddenly, the shadow moved. A hand reached out, aiming right for her hiding spot in the bushes, and grabbed her ankle.

Wiona kicked out, struggling to break free, but the grip was impossibly strong. She was just about to use her other leg when a familiar, deep voice called out through the night, cool and clear.

“Trying to start a wrestling match?”

“Come down.”

Wiona froze. That voice… She leaned forward, peering through the leaves.

“Mr. Sullivan?” she blurted out in surprise.

When she saw Conrad standing there, her face broke into a huge, relieved smile.

“It’s really you!” she said, barely able to keep the excitement out of her voice. Relief washed over her. It wasn’t someone from the Salisbury family. It was Conrad. Again. How did he always manage to show up just when she needed him most? It was like he appeared out of thin air every time she was in trouble.

Was he here tonight because of her?

Wiona shook her head. No, it had to be the twins she was carrying, keeping her safe.

Still beaming, she tried to climb down from the tree, but her legs had gone completely numb. The moment she shifted her weight, pins and needles shot from her waist all the way down. Her muscles gave out, and before she could catch herself, she toppled straight out of the tree.

She gasped, bracing for the pain, but instead, she landed right in a pair of strong arms. Conrad had already reached out to catch her, though he clearly hadn’t expected her to fall quite so quickly.

Wiona clutched her belly, waited until she stopped moving, then cautiously opened one eye. Conrad was looking right at her. Even in the darkness, she could feel her cheeks turn pink.

“Sorry, my legs went numb,” she mumbled, mortified.

Conrad studied her face. “I thought you were just so excited to see me.”

Wiona turned away, embarrassed.
