So, she and Molly hopped out at a quiet spot, and Jim followed. Tim drove off, heading straight for Sullivan Group’s building.

The three of them ducked into a nearby alley and waited. Sure enough, Jace and Kyle’s cars circled the area again, searching. Once they were gone, Wiona, Molly, and Jim slipped into the busy streets and disappeared.

Around four that afternoon, Wiona’s phone buzzed. Madison’s name lit up the screen.

“Wiona, thank God you answered,” Madison said, her voice full of relief. “I was worried you’d blocked me, too.”

Madison let out a breath. “Are you okay? Kyle told me you were at some underground casino, then at a club called Esctsay, and… are you really pregnant?”

“Yeah,” Wiona admitted. “I had some things to take care of in those places.”

“Was it your brother who told you all that?” Wiona asked.

Madison hesitated when she heard ‘your brother.’ She remembered how cold Kyle had been to Wiona, and realized there was nothing she could say to defend him.

After a pause, Madison went on, “He’s been really upset about you these past few days. He even got into a fight with Mom and Dad, asking why they didn’t look after you when he was gone. He said that’s why you’ve started doing all these crazy things.”

She sounded worried. “Just… be careful out there, okay? And don’t worry. I won’t tell them I talked to you.”

Wiona’s tone softened. “Thanks, Madison. Really.”
