“Let’s go check it out.”
Wiona wasn’t locked in her room, so she followed Madison without any trouble down to the living room. Cole and Jasmine were already there, sitting on the sofa with worry written all over their faces. The moment they saw Wiona and Madison come down together, their expressions changed.
Before anyone could say a word, Kyle stormed in from outside. As soon as he noticed Wiona, his face turned ice cold.
“Why did you come downstairs? Go back up. You’re not allowed to leave your room without my say-so.”
His harsh tone made Jasmine flinch, and even Madison could feel that something was seriously off. What could have made Kyle, who cared about Wiona a lot, get this angry so early in the morning?
Jasmine quickly stepped in, trying to calm her son down.
“Kyle, what’s going on? Can’t we just talk about this? Wiona finally came home. Didn’t we all agree to get along as a family from now on?”
Kyle shot back, “Mom, do you have any idea who those people outside are?”
Jasmine hesitated, seeing the look on Kyle’s face. “Who are they?”
Acting like nothing could touch them, Cole waved his hand dismissively. “Kyle, it doesn’t matter who they are. The Morgan family isn’t scared of anyone. We might not be the richest in Stonehill, but no one can push us around.”
Then he turned his glare on Wiona.
“Look at what you’ve done. The whole Morgan family is surrounded this early in the morning. Do you even realize these people are here because of you? You’ve barely been home a day and already there’s chaos.”
If this had been the old Wiona, she probably would have teared up and run back upstairs. But not anymore. She wasn’t that little girl who let everyone walk all over her.
“I never asked you to drag me back here,” Wiona said, her voice steady as she walked over and sat down on the couch. “All this trouble? You brought it on yourselves.”
She looked calmly at everyone.
“If I’m right, those people outside are here to take me away. And the reason you’re so angry, Kyle, is because you don’t know how to stop them.”
She poured herself some water, taking a slow sip before glancing up at Kyle.
“Did you really think you could decide whether I stay or go? I haven’t belonged to the Morgan family for a long time. You can’t keep me here.”
Kyle’s face grew darker, his anger twisting his features. He clenched his fist, marched over, and grabbed Wiona’s arm.
“Come on. I’m taking you out of the country right now.”
He tried to drag her toward the secret passage by the back door. Wiona struggled, but Kyle’s grip was too strong.
