“Or are you saying the babies is just distantly related to the Sullivan family? That must be it. They have all kinds of cousins and relatives. It can’t actually be his, right? That has to be it. You were married. Why would he ever get involved with you?”
Cole clung to his theory, convincing himself in a heartbeat. His face twisted with anger, his eyes cold. “Just a Sullivan family relative and you think you can scare us? You’re trying to use their name to threaten us, to push your own family down. Ridiculous. You really are a disappointment. Do you have any idea how dangerous this is? If people find out you got pregnant with someone else’s child while you were married, you’ll be shamed by everyone, drowned in gossip, and you’ll drag the Morgan family’s name through the mud too.”
Right then, Wiona realized what that old saying really meant: you can never wake someone who’s pretending to be asleep. She shook her head, her voice calm. “You can think whatever you want. As long as it makes you feel better.” She glanced at her phone. “Time’s up. He should be here.”
Her words had just left her mouth when a loud crash echoed from the front gate. Kyle reacted instantly, reaching out to shield her. Wiona slipped away from him, sidestepping his arm, and walked quickly toward the entrance.
Kyle’s voice rose, sharp and desperate. “Wiona, get back here!” He reached to grab her, but Madison rushed forward, blocking his way.
“Kyle, the Morgan family lost Wiona the day you all turned your backs on her. Don’t make this uglier than it already is. Let her go. And anyway, you can’t fight the Sullivans, can you?”
Kyle pushed Madison away, “You don’t get to talk here. Move!”
Pain flickered across Madison’s face. She whispered bitterly, “Yeah, I was never anything to begin with.” Her eyes grew red, but Wiona had already taken the chance to slip to the foyer.
Kyle barked, “Stop her. Don’t let her take another step out of this house!”
Wiona’s voice was steady and strong. “Who’s going to stop me? Get out of my way.”
She marched straight outside. The servants noticed her pregnant belly and none of them dared to get in her way. And by now, the front gate was wide open.
The Morgan family had security, but it was nothing compared to the Sullivans. A team of Sullivan Group’s elite guards had already taken the gate apart, and now a flood of men in black surged into the garden, filling the space in seconds.
