“Don’t you think you’re responsible for what happened to my mom? Isn’t all of this your fault?”
Daniel snapped, “That’s enough! How dare you speak to me like that? You’re nothing but a disappointment. What have you ever done for the Salisbury family? Honestly, you’re hopeless.”
He hung up with a loud click. Jace just scoffed, the sound sharp and bitter.
“At least I know when to stop and try to make things right with Wiona. What about you? You pushed my mom straight into hell. And now, I guess you’re done with me, too…”
He shut his eyes, completely defeated. It felt like his heart was getting ripped apart, piece by piece, raw and aching. Suddenly, he let out a broken laugh that turned quickly into quiet sobs. He pressed his hands to his face, but the tears slipped through his fingers anyway.
Wiona, please. Don’t marry someone else. Don’t leave me.
Daniel, shaking with anger, slammed his phone down so hard it rattled the desk. Right then, Isaac walked in, folders in his arms. He tapped on the door.
“Dad, are you alright? Someone bring himn a coffee. Light sugar, half cream.”
Seeing his youngest son, finally back at his side and acting so mature, Daniel felt a tiny bit of comfort.
“Isaac, what brings you here?”
Salisbury Corporation was still buzzing with lights and employees working late. But everyone could feel the company wasn’t what it used to be. If Daniel hadn’t basically moved into the office, the whole place would have fallen apart long ago.
Isaac said quietly, “I was worried about you, Dad. Oh, and I found out something about Bianca. She’s apparently gone overseas. Should we try to bring her back?”
Daniel waved him off. “Let her go. I don’t want to see her again.”
Isaac saw how dark his father’s face had gotten. He let out a soft sigh and nodded.
“Whatever you say, Dad. Also… did you hear about what happened at Hawthorne Hall? Dad, that ‘Wiona’ everyone’s talking about is my sister-in-law, right?”
Daniel’s expression only grew darker.
