He was only here because he had no other choice, bracing himself to clean up her mess. Wiona honestly didn’t care what Julian thought of her. As long as he kept things civil on the surface, she wouldn’t make life hard for him.
“No, just tell him the truth. Don’t leave anything out.” If Jace ended up hating her even more, so what? Maybe if they both couldn’t stand each other, their divorce in a few months would go even smoother.
She turned to flag down a taxi. While they were waiting at a red light, she happened to glance out the window and spotted Jace inside a fancy restaurant across the street. She stared for a second, almost not believing it. There he was, sitting by the window with Kellen and Alona. The three of them looked so happy, chatting and laughing together like some perfect little family.
So this was why he’d left her without a word, why he’d stopped answering her calls. He just didn’t want her to ruin his happy moment.
Finally, it all clicked for Wiona. She took out her phone and snapped a picture, her hand steady. When she zoomed in, she could see Jace and Kellen sitting close, their eyes locked, something warm passing between them. Alona sat across from them, smiling, but there was something sharp and mocking in her eyes.
Wiona only meant to save the photo as evidence, but just then, Tina sent her a video. “Wiona, is this you in the video? Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
A clip of her smashing the jewelry store had gone viral, and the online comments were vicious.
“Does being rich mean you can just wreck a store?”
“How is this not disturbing the peace and destroying property? Why did the manager fire the employee?”
“The police should arrest this woman. She’s awful!”
“Of course, the rich always get away with it. Normal people are just pawns to them. Who can fight back?”
“I heard she’s married to the Salisbury Corporation CEO. No wonder the jewelry store didn’t dare push back.”
“Unbelievable. Are rich people really this out of control now?”
Tina kept texting, her messages coming in a rush. “Wiona, don’t listen to what people are saying online. Those videos are edited to make you look bad. Don’t stress about it.
