There was no way all this chaos had really happened just because of Molly, right? After what went down last night at the Schmidt family’s place, it was pretty clear Roger went after Molly just to get back at Wiona. If he had actually known about her and Conrad, he probably would have thought twice before making a move. Maybe Roger just saw an opportunity and took it. The real culprit behind all the trouble for Florian and his mom had to be someone from the Salisbury family.
That evening, the police called Florian in. Since Roger had used him to kidnap Molly, both Florian and Molly had to go to the station to give statements. With Mason involved, Wiona wasn’t too worried about Molly. Still, she was surprised by Mason. He’d managed to get Florian out of a casino without a scratch, which meant he had some kind of past with those places, even though he used to avoid them at all costs. But Wiona wasn’t one to pry into other people’s stories.
After leaving the cafe, she took Alice for a stroll in the park. Just as lunchtime rolled around, Conrad called.
“Wiona, where are you right now? Are you out having fun? Have you had lunch yet? If not, want to grab lunch together?”
Wiona agreed right away, a happy smile on her face. The three of them met at a restaurant. With twenty bodyguards in tow, Conrad just went ahead and booked the whole place. Luckily, the restaurant had two floors, so it didn’t feel cramped at all. The bodyguards ate outside while Wiona, Conrad, and Alice got a cozy private room by the window.
It was Alice’s first time eating out and she was absolutely fascinated, darting around the room, looking at everything with wide eyes. She couldn’t get enough of it all. Seeing her so calm and happy, Conrad felt a wave of relief and gratitude. He held Wiona’s hand and pulled her gently onto his lap.
“Thank you, honey,” he said softly. “If it weren’t for you, Alice might never have left Hawthorne Hall. Remember when we met at the care facility? I bought the place hoping a new environment would help Alice, but she refused to leave Hawthorne Hall. Every time we tried to take her towards the front gate, she’d lose it completely. Then she met you. You’re like her miracle. Honestly, I still can’t believe it. Wiona, how could I ever repay you?”
He tapped her nose gently, his eyes full of affection. Wiona wrapped her arms around his neck. She didn’t really understand how she’d managed to help Alice, but she was happy things had turned out this way. So she played along, teasing, “You can spend the rest of your life repaying me. But from now on, you’re mine. Only mine. You know I don’t tolerate any funny business, Conrad.”
If she did, she wouldn’t have broken things off with Jace so completely. Affairs and secrets were everywhere in rich families, and most people just put up with it. In a way, marrying Conrad so quickly was Wiona’s own gamble.
Conrad smiled softly. “Alright. No matter what happened before, or what comes next, I belong to you. Before, I was waiting for you. Now and in the future, I’m yours.”
They gazed at each other, lost in the moment, until Alice suddenly squealed.
