Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 391

Donna’s answer was short. Just two words. “No.”

The next day, Donna sounded more anxious. She texted again, her voice tense. “Ms. Clements, when are you actually going to do it? You said a day or two, but it’s been almost a week. Why is nothing happening? I’m running out of patience. My health isn’t good lately. I’m scared I won’t even get to see how this ends.”

Sophie asked, “What’s wrong?”

Donna hesitated, then said, “I think I messed with someone I shouldn’t have. There’s no going back now. But I have to see this through. Ms. Clements, please hurry up.”

Sophie replied, “Are you talking about Wiona? What happened? Did she find out about something? Did she do anything to you?”

“She’s way too cautious,” Sophie continued. “She doesn’t even trust her own mother-in-law. I haven’t found the right moment yet. But we can’t rush this. Everything has to be perfect. If Conrad finds out, all of this will be for nothing.”

Donna never replied after that.

Because that night, she ended her life.

Sophie sent her two more texts after. One said, “Donna, what happened? Did Wiona do something?” The other said, “Donna, I hope you find peace, and that no injustice follows you.”

Libby stared at those messages, gripping his phone so hard his knuckles turned white. “Mom, I swear I’ll find out what really happened to you. I won’t let this go.”

Since Donna’s death, Hawthorne Hall was shrouded in a heavy silence. The whole place felt weighed down. No one smiled. No one even mentioned Donna’s name.

Christmas was just around the corner, though. As the new lady of Hawthorne Hall, Wiona was in charge of hosting the holiday for the first time.

She called Phil over to ask how things were usually done. It was Phil’s first year in this position, so he went to check with Libby.

Libby had locked herself in Donna’s room for days. When Phil found her, Libby didn’t cause any trouble. “Mr. Sullivan doesn’t like big crowds. Normally, a third of the staff get time off. The rest work shifts, and they get paid ten times the usual rate. On Christmas Eve, it’s usually just him and Miss Alice. Sometimes Mrs. Sullivan comes back for dinner. The rest of the arrangements are here.” He handed Phil a detailed list.
