Wiona stared at her hands. “Yeah. From now on, I’m living for myself. I’m going to chase my dreams again.”

Tina’s voice sparkled through the phone. “Wiona, I’m really happy for you!”

After the call, Wiona glanced at her suitcase. It was already late, way past midnight. She decided to wait till morning to leave.

She had just stood up when her phone lit up with Jace’s name. She hesitated, then answered.

She didn’t even get a word in before voices came through. It’s Jace’s and another girl’s.

“Jace, maybe you should just go home to your wife tonight,” the girl said, her voice sweet and teasing.

Wiona heard the flick of a lighter, then Jace’s cold reply. “Go home to her? Just looking at her puts me off.”

“Kellen, stop joking,” he added.

Kellen. So all those nights he claimed to be at work, he’d actually been shacked up with her.

Wiona felt a sharp pain in her chest, but she didn’t hang up. It was obvious someone had meant for her to hear this.

She wanted to know what Kellen would say next.

Kellen giggled. “Do you really hate Wiona that much, Jace?

“You’ve been married a whole year. Are you telling me you never cared about her at all?

“She’s gorgeous. She used to be the famous Morgan family heiress, remember? You must have felt something for her, right?”

Jace’s voice was light, almost mocking. “What? No way. I only love you. Kellen, you’re jealous again.”

She pouted. “Can you blame me? You keep me hidden away like some secret. I can’t even show my face.

“My family’s nothing special. How could I ever compete with her?”

Jace’s voice softened. “Why should you compare yourself to her? You mean the world to me. A million times more than she ever could.”

He paused, then added, “I heard her mother ran off right after giving birth in the hospital. Then she wandered out, got hit by a car. If that nurse hadn’t swapped the babies out of spite for the Morgans, Wiona would’ve grown up in an orphanage. That was her real fate.

“She just got lucky. The real Morgan heiress took all the suffering for her. Now everyone knows the truth. Wiona’s just a nobody with a shady past. The Morgans want nothing to do with her anymore.

“And after all those dirty tricks she used to drive you away, I can’t tell you how satisfying it was when everyone found out she wasn’t the Morgans’ real daughter.

“Her whole identity was fake. Now what does she have, compared to you?

“In my heart, Kellen, you’re as special as the moon. There’s no one else like you.”

It had only been one day, but hearing those words again, Wiona felt oddly calm. She didn’t get angry this time.

She quietly hung up and saved the recording.

Whatever game Kellen was trying to play, whatever she was trying to prove, Wiona was ready to meet her head-on.

They saw her as nothing. They wanted to humiliate her, use her up.

Fine. She’d turn the tables. She’d make them taste what it’s like to lose everything.
