“Even healthy people can have side effects from unnecessary injections,” Dr. Cano warned. “You need to stop right away, or I can’t promise there won’t be more accidents.”

Wiona didn’t hesitate. She asked Dr. Cano to check her over again. When the results came back, he said, “You and the babies are perfectly fine. You’re in good health.” But I’ll need a sample of what you’ve been injected with to figure out exactly what it is.”

She already knew the answer. This had Jace written all over it. It didn’t matter that she was carrying his child with Kellen. He still wanted her to suffer, to make her life hell.

Wiona’s eyes turned icy as she stared at Remy. “I used to think you were a real doctor, someone with a conscience. But if I take this vial to the police and they test it for me… if I accuse you of drug abuse and intentional harm…”

“Do you really think Jace will save you?” Her lips curled in a cold smile. “How many years do you think you’d get?”

Remy’s face went pale. “Mrs. Salisbury, I was just following your husband’s orders. Please… you can’t do this to me. If you go through with this, my life will be over.”

Wiona forced herself to hold back her anger. Was her own life not ruined too? “Dr. Holmes, you need to decide who you’re working for now.”

Remy understood. Even if Mr. Salisbury had power, Wiona had the evidence. Remy had no way out.

After Remy slipped away, Wiona looked up at the giant wedding photo in the living room. Back then, Jace had seemed so gentle, so caring. His kindness had just been for show.

Now she was starting to question everything. If her pregnancy and the injections were fake, maybe that old medical report saying she couldn’t get pregnant was a lie too.

She just wanted to get out of this house. She went online and hired some strong cleaners. While she nibbled on her food, they took down the huge wedding photo. They cleaned out every trace of her from every room—cups, dishes, picture frames, even the souvenirs she and Jace had brought back from their dates. Wiona tossed everything into the fire pit in the garden and watched it burn to ash.

As she pulled her suitcase to the door, she called Remy. “Dr. Holmes, I need you to write a report saying my pregnancy is unstable and I’m showing signs of a threatened miscarriage because of emotional stress. Send it straight to Jace.”

If Kellen wanted everyone to know she was back, Wiona would help her get her wish.

Afterwards, Wiona touched her stomach gently. “Babies, Mommy’s not trying to say that about you. I just have to deal with two awful people, so don’t be mad, okay?” Her voice softened. “I love you both so much. You’re all I have now. Please stay safe and healthy inside me, alright?”
