Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 54

His eyes were wide with disbelief, and there was a flash of anger and confusion that he couldn’t hide. All around the grand foyer, the servants bowed their heads, suddenly quiet, as if hoping to disappear. Bianca had already ducked away, holding her breath so even the sound of her exhale wouldn’t give her away.

Daniel’s voice cut through the tension. He pointed at Jace, his words sharp. “Go upstairs to the west guest room. Stay there for five minutes. Do not come out until the time is up.” He didn’t wait for an answer. “George, follow him and make sure he does as he’s told.”

Wiona sat quietly to the side. She looked calm, almost distant, but inside her thoughts were racing, replaying every choice she’d made today. Using Daniel’s authority had been the right call.

She had only planned to keep her head down in the old house, to spend Grandma Grace’s last few months by her side, and to collect more evidence against Jace. She hadn’t wanted a showdown. But they’d left her no choice. The more they cornered her, the more determined she became.

It really came down to this. Either she left the Salisbury family for good, or she stayed and fought. She couldn’t swallow her anger, not anymore. Lately, Daniel’s attitude toward her had shifted, and she decided to take her shot. If it all went wrong, she’d just pack her bags and leave the next morning. At least she’d be done with all of them.

But her gamble paid off. Daniel clearly cared about the babies she was carrying—especially since they were twins.

Suddenly, someone started coughing violently on the stairs. Alona appeared, red-faced and clutching her throat as someone helped her down. Wiona glanced up. She saw Kellen, gripping her crutch, hobbling over to the west guest room too, curiosity getting the better of her.

Upstairs, in the west guest room, Jace watched his mother flee, coughing hard. His face changed, worry creeping in. Maybe… Wiona and Molly had been telling the truth. Maybe the room really wasn’t safe.

He stepped inside. The smell hit him instantly, sharp and chemical. His throat burned, his nose stung, and his eyes started to water. After just a few minutes, his temples throbbed and it hurt to swallow. His eyes stung and tears kept coming. Jace had never dealt with anything like this. He’d always lived in luxury, surrounded by the best of everything. He had no idea how bad toxic materials could be.

He couldn’t last five minutes. He turned to leave, but George stopped him. “Sorry, sir. Mr. Salisbury said five minutes.”

Kellen was at the door, looking anxious. “Jace…”

George glanced at her, a flicker of contempt in his eyes. Jace didn’t notice. He just pressed a hand over his mouth and nose and waved Kellen back. “Don’t come closer. You don’t want this stuff on you. Stay away.”
