After a couple of days of peace, Wiona finally got a call from Mason, her café’s manager.

“Boss, we found Kellen’s family.”

Wiona set down the dumpling wrapper she was working on, nodded to Grandma Grace, and stepped out with her phone.

“Go ahead,” she said, voice steady and calm, as if she was just checking in on a delivery.

Mason sounded much more excited. “You’ll never guess where they are.”

Wiona cut him off. “Before I married Jace, someone slipped me her file. I remember her family’s from the countryside. She was a top student, but her family was dirt poor, so she had some sponsor who helped her all the way to Stonehill College. She met Mr. Salisbury there, and they fell for each other. I’m not sure exactly where her family’s from. I heard Jace say her family treated her horribly, so she basically cut them off.”

Mason finally dropped the suspense. “That’s not the whole story.”
