“It was one of Mr. Salisbury’s close friends. Bianca first tried her luck with Mr. Neil Holmes, but he just pushed her off onto someone else.”
“After that, Neil disappeared.”
“Everyone had their own problems to deal with. No one had time to worry about Bianca.”
“The man who ended up with Ms. Salisbury goes by Linscott. I looked into him. He’s got a nasty reputation, violent and obsessive.”
“Last night, he and Bianca stayed together in one of the hotel rooms.”
“I slipped a server some cash to listen in. She said whatever happened in there sounded pretty rough.”
Linscott?
Wiona instantly pictured a face.
She knew exactly who that was. Darian Linscott—the wild youngest son of the Linscott family. She’d never spoken to him, but every time their paths crossed, he’d look at her with this obvious contempt, like she was beneath him because of where she came from.
She never imagined he and Bianca would end up together.
But Wiona didn’t feel guilty about what happened to Bianca.
The dress she changed out of last night still had traces of the juice Bianca handed her. Dr. Monroe had tested it and confirmed there was something in it—a drug. The very same drug Wiona had given Bianca.
So, Bianca was the one who started it.
Dr. Monroe said the stuff was strong enough to cause a miscarriage, if Wiona had actually drunk it without knowing.
Thankfully, she was prepared. She only mixed the powder into Bianca’s drink when she saw her heading her way.
If Bianca hadn’t tried to hurt her first, Wiona wouldn’t have turned the tables. And if her own dress hadn’t shown traces of the drug, she would have had Mason deliver the antidote. But in the end, Bianca had brought it all on herself.
Word was, the Salisbury family was currently hunting for a marriage match for Bianca. If this mess got out…
“Let it go,” Wiona said. “She can deal with the aftermath herself.”
She hung up and sat on her bed, staring off into nothing, when a nurse walked in.
“Ms. Morgan, we’ve brought you some breakfast. Would you like it now?”
Wiona blinked, surprised by the hospital’s thoughtful service.
She glanced at her phone—another missed call from “Mom”—then tossed it aside.
“Yes, please. Thank you.”

Time seemed to speed up, and soon it was time for Wiona to leave intensive care.
She opened her eyes, still a little groggy, and saw Jace standing by her bed—he must have just arrived.
“Wiona!”
His whole face lit up when he saw she was awake.
“Hey, sweetheart, how are you feeling?”
“Did you eat anything?”
“Seeing you awake makes me feel so much better.”
“And our babies are fine, just like you. Strong. I’m really proud of you.”
His eyes were soft and full of concern. He brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, acting like the perfect husband, as if nothing had ever changed between them.
