Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 89

Wiona pressed herself close to the slick, cold wall, her heart thumping so loud it nearly drowned out the rain. Every step she took was slow and careful, her shoes sliding just a little as she inched along the narrow ledge. It was dangerous, probably even hopeless, but it was the only way out she could see. The autumn rain soaked through her clothes, leaving her shivering so badly she could barely keep moving, but she forced herself to go on, steadying each foot before she dared to take another step.

In her mind, she whispered, Babies, cheer Mommy on, okay? We’re going to get out of here together. We’re going to leave this awful place for good.

The rain was coming down so hard she could barely make out the faint glow at the corner of the building. She didn’t know how much farther she had to go, but she didn’t let herself stop. Not even when she heard Jace’s furious, panicked shout from the window behind her.

“Wiona, come back! Right now!”

She kept going, feeling her way along the wall. Jace tried to climb out after her, but Alona caught him, clinging to him with desperate strength.

“Are you out of your mind?” she yelled. “If you fall, you’re either dead! What would I do then? What happens to the Salisbury family?”

Jace shook her off, his voice tight with fear. “Mom, Wiona is pregnant with my children. I have to get her back. I can’t just let her go.”

Alona’s face went cold, her eyes flat and hard. “If she wants to die, that’s her business. If she falls tonight, that’s just fate. You hear me, Jace? She chose this. Even if the police come, we haven’t done anything wrong.”

For a second, Alona’s fear faded, and she looked almost calm. If Wiona really did fall and die tonight, all their problems would be solved. The babies would be gone. The position of Mrs. Salisbury would be open again, and she could finally find her son a wife who really belonged in their world. She’d even get her hands on that bracelet Wiona always wore. With Wiona out of the way, everything would fall into place. As long as they called the police right away and there was no proof they’d forced her, a little money would make any questions go away. The Morgan family wouldn’t care. No one would.

A spark of excitement flickered across Alona’s face, and Jace saw it.

“Mom? Why are you smiling?”

Alona froze, caught. “I... Jace, you’re imagining things...”
