It turned out that, even though he always acted cold and heartless toward Wiona, he was actually the one who cared about her more than anyone else in this family.
Madison felt a strange ache in her chest, but she forced herself to step forward. “Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “Wiona promised me she’d be home for dinner yesterday. She said she’d come see you all too.”
“But she never showed up. I couldn’t get ahold of her, no matter how many times I called. Maybe… maybe something really did happen to her. I think we should focus on finding her first.”
Kyle and his parents turned to her in shock.
Jasmine rushed over, grabbing Madison’s hand tightly. “Madison, what do you mean? You talked to Wiona? She agreed to come have dinner with us? Why didn’t we know about this? And you… you really don’t mind if we see her again?”
Madison nodded, then shook her head. “Mom, let’s not talk about that now. What matters is finding her. I just… I just want her to be safe.”
Jasmine wiped her eyes, nodding quickly. She turned to Kyle. “Kyle, please, call everyone you know. We have to find her!”
Kyle answered before she finished. “Don’t worry, Mom. I already sent people to look for her.” He paused, his jaw tight. “Right now, though, I think we need to settle things with the Salisbury family.”
The three of them moved aside, ignoring the grandparents completely. Their grandfather looked furious, his face turning an angry shade of red.
“So this is how it is? No one in this house cares what we have to say? Fine, then. We’re leaving!”
He made a move to drag his wife out with him, but Cole finally got up from the sofa, his movements slow but deliberate.
“That’s enough,” Cole said, his voice quiet but commanding. “You already slapped my son. Isn’t that enough for one day?”
“If you hate Wiona just because of that marriage proposal, then let me clear things up for you. I was the one who refused it. Your stepbrother’s grandson isn’t good enough for Wiona.”
“She’s the girl I raised myself, the pride of the Morgan family. Marrying her off to the Salisburys was already a stretch. What makes you think I’d let her marry someone so ordinary?”
“Even if she isn’t my biological daughter, she’s not someone just anyone can dream of having.”
“Stay if you want, or leave. Do as you like.”
