That night, the Salisbury estate felt like it was holding its breath. The air was heavy, rain lashed at the windows, and thunder rumbled in the distance. Servants moved nervously through the halls, their eyes darting, while upstairs, the family was falling apart. Chaos had taken over, both inside and out. Stocks were plummeting, Wiona was still missing, and scandal after scandal had exploded all at once. No matter what they did, they couldn’t cover it up.

“There’s someone pulling the strings here,” Daniel said, voice tight with anger. “Whoever it is, they’re stronger than us. Smarter. More ruthless. Someone we can’t touch.”

He slammed his fist on the desk, his frustration pouring out. “Who is it? Who’s doing this to us?”

He turned on Alona, his voice cold. “And you. You couldn’t even keep your own secrets. You got caught meeting that banker. How do you expect me to show my face in public now?”

He glared at her. “Mother isn’t stupid. She probably knows everything. She’s been in a coma ever since this started, and if anything happens to her, I’ll hold both of you responsible.”

Jace and Alona went silent, heads bowed. They knew exactly how much Daniel cared about Grandma Grace. The company was his life, but his mother was just as important.
