She had suspected it, but the confirmation still caught her off guard.
Their wedding night flashed in her mind, and she knew that’s when it must have happened.
Katie’s thoughts spiralled out of control. Would Lucian accept this child? How would he fee about it?
Did he even want kids now?
Memories of her last miscarriage flooded her mind. And then the death of Ruby.
But they were caused by Liam.
This was Lucian.
Should she tell him about the baby? Not telling him wasn’t an option, but she was scared.
As she heard Lucian’s footsteps approaching, Katie quickly hid the test strip behind her back. H entered the room, his eyes scanning her face with concern.
‘Are you okay?”
Katie waved a hand. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Lucian’s gaze lingered on hers. “Maya has already gone to sleep. Are you feeling sleepy?”
Katie nodded, trying to play it cool. “I’ll be sleeping very soon.”
ucian’s eyes seemed to bore into her soul, and Katie wondered if he suspected something.
But he didn’t press the issue, instead nodding and sitting beside her.
She took a deep breath, deciding to tell Lucian about the pregnancy. But before she could speak. he door swung open, and Maya stood there, looking apologetic.
Oh, I’m so sorry,” she said, her voice sheepish. ‘I got the doors mixed up. I was trying to find my vay to the kitchen to get some water.”
Lucian smiled reassuringly. “It’s okay, Maya. You should have called the maid to get you water.”
She nodded, her eyes downcast. “I’ll be in my room now.”
Katie knew somehow she didn’t get the doors mixed up. She probably did it on purpose.
Maya left, and Lucian turned back to Katie. “Okay, so what were you saying just now?”
Katie shook her head, feeling frustrated. “Nothing, let’s go to sleep.”
The next day, Katie woke up early, determined to tell Lucian about the pregnancy.
She cooked all his favorite foods, refusing the maid’s help.
As she waited for him to come home, she called him, but he didn’t pick up. She tried again, but this time Maya answered.
‘Sorry, Alpha Lucian is busy at the pack house right now. Do you want to leave a message?”
Katie didn’t like the sound of that. She felt uneasy.
What was going on? Why was Maya answering Lucian’s phone?
Katie’s voice was icy. “This is his wife speaking. Please put him on the phone.”
Maya’s tone was polite but firm. “He’s actually really busy right now and won’t be able to speak on the phone.”
Katie’s anger boiled over, and she abruptly disconnected the call.
She rushed out of the house. Frustrated.
The maid called out to her, “Luna Katie, how about the food?”
Katie waved her hand dismissively. “Forget about that for now. I’ll be right back later.”
She drove to the pack house.
When she arrived, she saw Maya and Lucian together, and her jealousy spiked.
They seemed cozy, and it looked like they were working together as Alpha and Luna.
But Katie was the actual Luna. The sight of Maya in that role made her uncomfortable.
She watched as the members praised Maya for her unique gift and her willingness to help the pack.
“You’re a treasure to our pack,” Lucian said, his smile warm.
Katie felt like she was going to explode with jealousy.
Katie turned to leave, but Lucian’s voice stopped her, noticing her. “Katie, you’re here?.”
She forced a smile and turned back. “Yes, Maya told me where to find you. I’ve been calling you and you haven’t been picking up.”
He frowned. “Oh, shoot, I didn’t know where I kept my phone.”
Maya chimed in, “I’m so sorry, I picked up. You were really busy with the pack members, so I ha to tell Luna Katie your location.”
Lucian’s eyes turned serious. “Katie, Maya just joined our pack. She got exiled from her old pac after the evil alpha took over.”
‘She’s already joining the pack?”
He sighed deeply. “Yes actually. Do you have a problem with it or it’s okay for her to stay in th pack house so she can be closer to us?”
Katie managed another smile.
“Of course, no problem. As long as she’s a member of the pack, she can stay in the pack house Besides, she’s really beneficial for us since she’s so unique.”
Maya’s smile seemed sweet, but Katie could see the calculation in her eyes.
“Thank you so much, Luna Katie, for being so welcoming.”
Then she turned to Lucian.
