Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 111

Dean’s anger just kept growing, his chest tight like he couldn’t take a full breath.

With a cold laugh, he pulled out his phone and called his assistant.

“Find out everything you can about Emmy’s new husband. I want to know exactly who this guy is.”

Evelina watched him, her expression complicated.

“Dean, are you really not over her? If you still have feelings for Emmy, I can step back. I just want you to be happy.”

He grabbed her hand, his voice rough and impatient. “Don’t say that. From the day my mom died, all I’ve felt for Emmy is resentment. If it weren’t for you, Emmy and her mother would’ve had me completely fooled. You’re the only one I care about.”

“As for Emmy, sure, we grew up together, but she’s always been like a little sister to me. I just don’t want to see her get hurt or end up on the wrong path.”

A flicker of sarcasm flashed in Evelina’s eyes, but when she looked up again, she was all softness and understanding.

“If that’s really how you feel, why don’t we go to France tomorrow and bring my mom back? Let’s get married soon, okay?”

Dean frowned. “Not right now. Mr. Nelson has been interfering with all the company projects lately. Looks like he’s coming back to take over the family business. It’s already shaken things up for Sparrow Group, and I need to deal with this business mess first.”

He glanced at Evelina, his voice apologetic. “Maybe you could go ahead and bring your mom back yourself? Once she’s here, I’ll come by and apologize properly.”

The excitement faded from Evelina’s face, but she forced a smile.

“All right... if that’s what you want.”

Meanwhile, Emmy was still holding James’s hand, wandering aimlessly down the street.

Eventually, James stopped walking.

His low voice sounded above her head. “How about we eat here?”

Emmy snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at the steakhouse in front of them.

She nodded almost without thinking.

Her voice dropped to a mumble. “Honestly, I’m the one taking advantage of you. I just keep clinging to you and... kind of leeching off you, I guess.”

“That’s not it either.”

James cut her off, sounding just a little annoyed.

Emmy stared at him, flustered. “Then what do you mean?”

Without warning, James leaned forward and caught her wrist.

His hand was hot against her skin, his thumb tracing gentle circles that sent a shiver right through her.

He stared at her bare wrist, his eyes suddenly dark and intense.

“The bracelet I gave you. Where is it? Are you so caught up thinking about someone else that you can’t even bother to wear my gift?”
