Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 112

“No, that’s not it!” Emmy blurted, her words tumbling over each other. “It’s not that I don’t want to wear it, I just… I just…”

She looked so torn, cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

James narrowed his eyes, leaning closer. “Just what?”

His stare made Emmy’s scalp prickle. She felt cornered, so she just came clean.

“I don’t wear fakes. That’s why I left it in the bedroom.”

James went silent.

The air in the room turned heavy, the kind of silence that presses on your chest.

The warmth vanished from James’s face, leaving him cold and distant.

He suddenly stood up. “Enjoy your dinner.”

The door slammed shut behind him, the sound so loud it made Emmy jump.

She sat there, frozen, biting her lip so hard it hurt.

She’d messed up again.

Frantic, she pulled out her phone and typed a message.

It’s not that I think it’s fake.

I just worry those crystals might have been chemically treated. If there’s anything toxic, it’s not safe for me to wear.

But because it’s from you, I put it in a special box and kept it in my bedroom.

She hesitated, then added another line.

Maybe next time you could give me a glass bead bracelet? I promise I’ll wear it every day!

A glass bracelet would be affordable, and safe, she thought.

But her phone stayed silent.

Her heart squeezed. She sent another message.

I’m sorry.

“I’m warning you, Emmy, don’t let him talk you into anything. Don’t you dare go back to him!”

Emmy snorted. “Do I look like that kind of person to you?”

“I had no idea he was so petty. Now I just regret ever being good to him. All I did was give him ammo to use against me.”

“Forget it,” Abriella sighed, “you need to figure out how to make things right with your husband. I think you really pissed him off this time.”

After they hung up, Emmy let out a long breath.

Her steak arrived, sizzling and juicy, but she had no appetite. She poked at it, managed a few bites, then put her fork down.

When she went to pay, the owner smiled and waved her off. “That gentleman already paid.”

Emmy froze.

Dean’s voice echoed in her head, calling James a kept man.

So even after slamming the door and storming out, James still remembered to pay?

Was he trying to prove he wasn’t the kind of guy Dean accused him of being?
