Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 190

“What was she supposed to do?” Dean’s voice was full of sarcasm. “She was just worried you’d get taken advantage of, so she met with James and tried to talk some sense into him.”

“How was she supposed to know that guy would get all handsy just because she’s pretty and has money? Eve fought back and that’s when he broke her wrist.”

“Seriously, are you really going to defend a guy who flirts with every woman he meets and gets violent for no reason?”

“If Eve hadn’t begged me not to go to the cops because she didn’t want to make things worse for you, I’d have had him thrown in jail already.”

“But don’t worry. I’m not letting him off the hook.”

Emmy shot back without thinking, “What are you planning to do?”

Her tone turned cold. “Dean, maybe you should get your facts straight first. Do you even know what Evelina did to James?”

Dean let out a harsh laugh.

“Her wrist is broken. What could she possibly have done? Even now, all she cares about is you, Emmy. Can’t you think about her for once?”

“I wasn’t going to bring this up, but if she’s going to twist things, I might as well tell you—she drugged James—”

He didn’t even get to finish before a pained cry came through the phone from Evelina.

“Ow… it hurts…”

Dean’s voice changed instantly, filled with worry. “If you need something, just call me. Why are you trying to get it yourself? What if you hurt yourself again?”

Evelina’s voice was soft and shaky. “But you’re still hurt too. I hate to see you pushing yourself.”

“I’m almost fine now. You’re the one who needs to rest. Just relax and let me take care of you.”

Emmy rolled her eyes at their back-and-forth sweetness and hung up without another word.

After a second, she grabbed her phone, typed out a message, and hit send.

[Did you know about Evelina’s fun little night with a male escort? If not, you might want to check into it.]

Across town, Dean made sure Evelina was comfortable before he noticed Emmy’s text.

His brow furrowed.

Male escort?

She hadn’t expected Dean to actually investigate, but her mom had already paid to hush everything up. Even if he checked, he’d never get the full story.

She bit her lip, tears welling up. “I… I didn’t know it was a bar. I just went because James asked me to. I had no idea he’d take me somewhere like that…”

She switched gears fast, her voice trembling with worry. “But why was James going to a place like that, Dean? Isn’t that cheating on Emmy?”

Dean’s face stayed hard. “You’ve been hurt for three days. Why are you only coming to the hospital now?”

There was no way Evelina could admit she’d been arrested for solicitation and that her mom had to pay a fortune to keep it quiet, which was why she’d been hiding at home for two days.

“I… I just didn’t want you to worry. I was scared to tell you, scared to come find you… Dean, did Emmy say something?”

Tears ran down her cheeks, splashing onto her hand as she looked up at him, all fragile and vulnerable.

“I’m just really worried about Emmy. Her husband is apparently a regular at places like that, and I heard those bars are super sketchy…”

Dean looked at her pale face and the cast on her wrist. Whatever doubts he had left got swallowed up by guilt and anger.

“I’ll handle things with her. You just focus on getting better. Whoever hurt you is going to pay.”
